just curious as to WHERE PSU is compared to WHAT they  Possibly could Do at SEASONS MAX. play.

I dont know how B & P can do much more?
Cornley -same
DJ has some upside when he becomes more FORCEFUL
Brooks - plenty - but will we ever see it?
Morrissey - what you see is what your getting
Jones - needs consistency, potential for BIG improvement though likelihood is minimal, IMO & O's.
Bench - cant improve much with minimal pt.

92 is my grade,  where the other 8 would come from is anybodys guess.

What ya all think?

All our upside right now lies on Brooks, DJ, and Jones.

DJ could get a lot better, he's gonna be a nice player by the time he leaves here.

Brooks... i don't know yet.

And jones.. i'm doubtful he develops into much - but hopefully he becomes serviceable against most average bigs we face.  If he could chip in about 8 points, 6 rebounds, and stay out of foul trouble.. i'd be happy.

I selected under 80...I'm yet to see the inspired play that we saw against MSU, Illinois, etc. You can make the case that its because we haven't faced good enough competition, but its still VERY early in the season, and these are still young guys. They have experience, but I think right now they're playing at about 75% of what they will at the end of the year. I think they will be playing 85-90% at the start of the Big Ten, and they'll reach close their max about 5/6 games into the Big Ten schedule.

My point is, this team hasn't looked "gelled" at all to me yet. We're seeing great individual performances, but we're not seeing great team play IMO. I think the ceiling is still high for this season.

For a more detailed look:

NOTE: Individual evaluations might seem optimistic, but we're talking about potential here.  Wink

Battle, Pringle, Cornley - keep it going.

Brooks - probably has the most potential, he just hasn't shown up yet...we'll see if that happens or not.

DJ - good contributor, yet to be seen if he can ever take over a game or be a primary threat.

Jones - He has flashes, needs to put it all together. If he does, he could be QUITE good.

Morrissey - As Rokk said...I think he will be only good for a couple threes, I cringe watching him play out there, I don't think he'll be able to                           be productive for more than 15 minutes a game for the whole season.

Woodyard - Hoping he can prove himself to be last years DJ...play some D, nail the jump shots, get some rebounds, let the older guys rest.

Babb - My ship hasn't sailed on Babb yet...If he can prove to provide just 5-8 solid minutes of defense and 3 point shooting, that can provide a great spark. However, he's going to have to take some strides because it sure looks like the game is too fast for him right now.

Ott - If this guy can come in and provide 2 pts, 4 rebs in 5-10 minutes, while playing some D, that could be HUGE in giving Jones rest and foul trouble relief. We shall see.

...
That's my evaluation on individual performances, but, my overall feel has nothing to do with the individuals, it's the continuity and the flow. These guys played well together against some good Big Ten teams last year. No reason they can't do it again this year, with improvement. I put them at 75% right now.

2-4 rebounds in 5-10 minutes works out to 16 rebounds per 40 minutes and would lead the Big Ten by a wide wide margin.  You'd better ratchet that number down a little.

Okay, well, you get my point...1 - 3....expanding that to 40 minutes is still a high number, but for the few minutes he's in, he should have fresh legs and a focus on cleaning the boards.

An example would be (this might be pointless if no one follows the Sixers closely), but...Shavlik Randolph had the highest Rebounds/min in the NBA a few years ago, and no one knew who he was because he only played 5-10 minutes a game. He got in the game, played like his AZZ was on fire, and sat down when his time was up. Forget the stats, just have a positive effect for a few minutes a game.

I gave it 94 and >. I pretty much agree with Rokk's summary. But my score is higher because I think Jones is "on schedule" and Brooks is close to "schedule." Brooks lost developmental PT due to injuries. Both are going to take time. They are making progress.
