If he's got a good attitude it couldn't hurt. We need bigs desperately. I wonder if he's friendly with Ott? On the bad side, he would further distort the scholarship balance. We really needed a juco big man for this year.

He couldn't play until mid/late December like Ott this year. I believe he's played two seasons plus the beginning of this season, so would he have a year and a half of eligibility? That would be similar to a juco.

That would make his eligibility run out at the same time as Talor, AJ, DJ, Jeff and Ott.

I find it a bit unusual. You can point to this kid and an attitude problem, but this is the SECOND kid in as many years that is tranfering out of the program PART WAY THROUGH THE YEAR. When you tranfer half way through the year, you are really shooting yourself in the foot. As far as eligibility, a mid-year transfer screams of deeper issues. Once may be a blip, but twice is a trend.

Isn't it the other way around? If he waited until the year was over and he transfered wouldn't he lose a year that he doesn't have due to the redshirt? By not waiting until the EOTY he can begin play at the new school during the 2nd semester. I don't know the rules and don't follow them very closely but if this is the case then it makes sense to me.

Unless he got some special treatment from the NCAA, he would have 1/2 year of eligibility in 2009-10 or a full season in 2010-11. He has already played in three seasons. He was suspended in 2006-07 by Wright and then suspended again this year, so there may be major attitude problems.

Lots of wrong info in this thread. Bison has it right.
This season is Drummond's third. He has ONE left.
If he transfers now, he can choose to play a half season next year and have it count as his fourth season of competition or he can wait until 2010-11 and play a full season.
By transferring mid-year, he is costing himself. If he plays next year, he will have basically only played a half season during TWO of his years so he's cost himself a year. By waiting a year and a half to play, he could get a full season of competition, but he could also get a full year in 2010-11 if he plays the rest of this season at Nova, then transfers next year. So transferring mid-year is costly in his case.
Ott was a different story because he was up against the NCAA's five year rule. His career was going to come to an end at the end of 2009-2010 no matter what. His choices were to play the rest of last season at Villanova, then transfer and have a year at his new school, or, the one he chose, transfer in mid season and get a year and a half at his new school. Different situation entirely because Ott had already taken a redshirt.

Maybe I missed something, but did Villanova beat URI by 100 points? Why do we want guys who can't play for Villanova? I know I am not a long, suffering PSU fan, but the team will only improve if they get players Villanova wants, not players Villanova wants to get rid of. Maybe in the old days, yes, but call me optimistic. IMO, you have the best pg in the Big 10, why not try to get the best #4 and #5 in the Big 10 for the next two years? Or the second best, or third best, but someone competitive. Minnesota got Sampson. Is that such a mecca for talent? Such a desirable spot? I find it almost incredible, that 6'9" Jason Love is in his 3rd year at Xavier, and starting. He was a teammate of Andrew Jones, same year in HS, as he didn't redshirt. We couldn't even outrecruit Xavier in PA! Now, some will say, Xavier has a legacy, Xavier's excellent, ranked 14th, yada yada. He should be starting for PSU. If PSU doesn't believe it deserves top billing over Xavier when recruiting, it's over. That they're ranked 14th is a testament to their aggressive recruiting, no matter who's going after kids. They go up vs. NC, OSU, Big East schools, you name it. They don't take leftovers. Go back to the A-10 if you can't outrecruit them. This kid from Villanova? Move on, IMO. Go after top players with winning attitudes. Commit to them big time.

I think you answered your own question in another thread. Big men often takes several years to develop and they are hard to find. Right now we are playing with two empty scholarships (unless a walkon or two was handed the money for the year), so taking a shot at an older big guy might pan out. If it doesn't, oh well, he's gone shortly anyway.
