"CHAMPAIGN - Those of us who vote for the men's Big Ten basketball awards were asked to rank three Coach of the Year candidates.

"Purdue's Matt Painter, who leaned so heavily on freshmen, got my No. 1 vote.

"Bo Ryan, who led Wisconsin to the championship, was No. 2.

"No. 3 might surprise you, but I found it easy to vote for Penn State's Ed DeChellis, who absorbed two gut-shot injuries and kept the Nittany Lions playing hard and playing successfully right up to the final day of the regular season. ..."
